Yaka International

projet développement durable

x

The Music Festival 2007: the live!

d68c0095One more year spent with the team of young people from Sotteville for the production of a live video of the youth Music Festival (every 21st of June in every cities in France). Again, much pleasure to prepare this event with the youngsters. This year, the Yaka team inovates by preparing a DVD of the whole preparation of that great party. Our teams are already on the film editing and the documentary will be available from the beginning of the academic year 2007/2008. For the live, we had one more time lot of pleasure with a team of youngsters more and more autonomous. The only false note (sorry for that imponderable) the camera behind the scene was temperamental and didn't want to appear on both big screens. Don't worry, we have those images anyway and we have a a surprise in store for you on the DVD. We'll also find some video clips that the audience could discover on the live night. There will also be the one of the stage building (huge work of the technician team very oftun forgotten...).

While waiting for the video, you can profit of those few photos...

En attendant la vidéo, profitez de ces quelques photos...

The first workshops on sustainable development

ca4pchcf

After the creation of the modules on sustainable development by Marie, we braught 3 diferent classes in operation.

In the two first classes, we ran the project with 3 young members of Peace Child International with whom we will go deeper on sustainable development giving them an intercultural dimension (see the article: the beginning of the Youth Action Initiative).

In those two classes, we intervened in turn with the British. Indeed, in the first class, Marie and Eugénie ran a workshop on water which was composed of a questionnaire and research on the internet. During the afternoon, the creation of a photo novel in groups showing them on different subjects around the theme of water.

The children were very pleased to do those activities, even if the “informatics research” session was harder to organize  (because of a lack of equipment), all of them learned a lot having fun at the same time.

During the second day, the British showed us their workshops, with the nice participation of Kezac who translated into French for the children, and also for the coordinators. The workshops which are made in England last one hour. They did several modules; on climate changes, energy use in houses, litters, and the ecological print with the discovery of India thanks to Preetam.

The childen liked very much the workshops, they enabled them to discover a lot. Several workshops were organized, which transmitted many information to the children. In normal circumstances, only one workshop is set in a class. The number and the accuracy of the knowledge approached didn’t prevent the children to have a nice time.

The following workshops were ran in March in Célia’s class, a workshop on garbages and 2 on the forest, games, drawings, and ail art (artistic creation sent by Post). These works were conducted by the children during the workshops. The aim was to make the children participate at the most and involve them in their apprenticeship

To see if our actions had an impact, we decided to organize one more session at the end of June. There, we ran games in forest and a questionnaire asking about all the stuffs we had approached during the previous sessions, but also new information.

This session shows that some information have made a lasting impression on the children and generated a change in behavior like switching off the light when going out of a room, turning off the water when brushing our teeth…

Our work had a definite impact on the children which encourages us to carry on and to perpetuate our actions.

My internship in Yaka

Why Yaka, why the international and sustainable development...

by Eugénie young trainee volunteer

After a stay in Iceland, within the scope of the European Voluntary Service, my passion for the International reinforced. I felt the desire to share with other young people my “short” experience to enable them to leave in good conditions, so that they are well-prepared to live their stay well, and that is through that action and the setting up of projects that I want to share my experience and also to enrich it.

At the moment, we are living in a multicultural society where young people don’t always know what happens around them. Those European and International exchanges could enrich their knowledge and develop their own culture. It would also enable them to take the cultural differences into consideration. The society is getting more and more multicultural, it seems to me that we have to use that new field as a mutual enrichment source. Improving your mind with other cultures and improving other people’s mind with your own culture at the same time.

The culture develops through the knowledge of others but also through the knowledge of what surrounds us and make us live.

To those international projects, I would like to add the sustainable development dimension which seems essential to me since it emphasizes our ways of life and of consumption; resource exhaustion, social inequalities, growth cycles based on immediate profit, causing social and environmental damages, which are part of our culture. And if we want that our children can carry on discovering the world, they have to learn now how to conciliate their needs and the preservation of social, economical and environmental equilibrium.

My internship started quite a long time ago now, here are the projects I could participate :

The sustainable development modules that Marie created: I helped her to finish her workshops and I will help her to run those workshops in partner schools and leisure centres.

A stay in Belgium set up by the Mission locales with young people from 18 to 225 registered as job seekers. This project should enable them to know more accurately the functioning of Europe and its administration.

And eventually, the biggest project we are setting up is the partnership with Peace Child International in order to create common workshops to both countries which should enable the maximum of children to be aware of sustainable development.

I hope I’ll be able to take part in other projects of that kind. All those actions I could participate with Yaka allowed me to understand better the theoretical training of the BPJEPS ( a professional diploma of youth, popular education and sports) and also to put it into practice.
